Pregnancy

Pregnancy is the beginnning of a new life and new opportunity to find yourself. It is full of growth (literally) and possibilities, and hope and dreams coming true.

But it can also be the start of heavy feelings that can feel like a flood. You don't have to face this time alone. Your partner may or may not understand. But you are not the only one who has experienced these feelings. There is no shame. You don't have to hide. You can get help.

It is not hopeless.

During pregnancy, it is common for past trauma to flood in. Trauma is lived - past experiences that didn't get sorted out in your brain. This doesn't mean that your past was all bad. It doesn't mean you are a flawed person. It just meant that your brain needs to process the trauma to make sense of the event(s) in a healthy way. Of course you are experiencing physical exhaustion as all of your energy is being directed at growing another human being. Amazing right?! But, your burden doesn't have to be so heavy. Your emotional exhaustion has the potential to be eliminated completely. You can be different and feel different.

EMDR for Pregnancy

Eye Movement Desentization and Reprossessing Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR is an evidence-based intervention proven to help you with your symptoms of anxiety. EMDR will help you naturally shift your perspective to a more positive one by assisting you to believe more positive and adaptive beliefs about yourself through focusing on your thoughts, emotions, negative beliefs and body sensations. This will help you naturally reduce your symptoms and triggers affecting your mood.

EMDR is safe during pregnancy. Research has shown us that clients who receive EMDR during pregnancy decrease their distress, symptoms of PTSD, and fears with childbirth. Clients have also reported less intrusive thoughts and confidence about their upcoming delivery. Your attachment to your baby will also increase as your prenatal bond increases through EMDR while aiding in your symptom reduction and an increasing grounding skills.
